Geomun Oreum site chosen for Jeju World Natural Heritage Center |

The committee has spoken. The Jeju World Natural Heritage Center will be located in Geomun Oreum district, Jocheon-eup.
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, on February 27, with 24 relevant officials from IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Environment, and the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea present, a World Heritage Committee was held to finally confirm Geomun Oreum district, Seonheul-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju City as the World Natural Heritage Center site.
In previous research, Geomun Oreum district and Jeju Stone Park were recommended as a heritage center site. With an investment of $23.3 million USD from 2009-2011, the World Natural Heritage Center will feature an exhibition hall, theater, education hall, experience hall, and research center. The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will begin collecting applications for architecture design and launch implementation plans. |
